If you've been following the discussion on our Facebook page then you'll have heard about the good results of our Pedmoto Series 1 exhaust during testing. A big "thank you" to Ben Davies and Tom Holloway who allowed us to torture their bikes for an evening. All tests went better than expected with surprisingly pleasing figures as a 50 and 70cc exhaust. Shocking really, this system was only intended to come out as one of the strongest performing 50 systems and it has ended up out performing some of the best and poorest in both stock 50 format and mid-range 70 setups.

Visually, the aggressive angle of the Series 1 really benefits the bike by making more of the rear wheel visible. Fitting and removal of the pipe is also easy thanks to the accessibility of the exhaust manifold. The finished system will be sold with a black anodised silencer and will be supplied in a lacquered or bare metal finish just in case anyone wants to have them chrome or nickel plated. We still need to crunch the price a little but we can guarantee it will be hard to beat on performance, price, appearance and general quality for a quite possible RRP of £99.99. Here's a sneak preview of the latest prototype which has now reached the 'beta' stage of development meaning it's now close to going into production.Stocking most of the best brands has made it easy for us to see what's needed to make a good system and hopefully at a lower price than any of the potential competition (providing we've done our sums right)!

Our very own Pedmoto Series 1 performance exhaust has been developed for the popular 50 to 70cc sports range, and now we want one of you guys to help us in our development:

Although our exhaust has already proven to be one of the strongest performers if not the strongest on our test bike, we want to test it on some fresh meat before we commit to a production run. So we need a volunteer with a standard scooter that has a Minarelli horizontal engine (2010/2011) with no more than an aftermarket exhaust fitted and re-jetted etc. (e.g. Aerox, Jog RR, Malaguti F12/F15). Remember guys we're based in Barnsley so it might make sense for you to be quite local. As a reward the owner of the test bike used will receive a FREE Series 1 Pedmoto system!

The TTR Linkage frame is similar in size to the CRF70 style frames which make it comfier and more useable for larger or adult riders. Being the big kids we are, we like to play on everything powered by petrol. Out recent obsession has been pit bikes, whether it be in the Pedstop HQ car park or out in the woods, we surprised ourselves how fun little bikes can be for reasonable money. The first line up to arrive are from M2R (Made 2 Race). The quality and sturdiness of the bikes for the money really struck us by surprise, they’re well built and bloody quick as we found out when we went to test some this weekend. There will be plenty more pit bike fun to come but (over the next three blog posts) these are the three bikes that instantly appealed to us and are suitable for teenagers and adults.

M2R KMX 140cc – CRF 70 Frame – Big Wheeled Carbon Fibre Edition

The KMX 140 makes use of the CRF 70 frame that is larger than the traditional CRF 50 style frames often thought of when the term “pit bike” is used. It makes them much more rideable for larger teenagers or adults with more room when riding sat down. With a YX 140cc oil cooled race engine fitted as standard there’s ample power on tap with 13 HP at the rear wheel which is more than enough to upset most large adults. The overall spec of this bike is pretty good straight out of the box with USD triple clamp forks, piggy back rear shock, high rise bars and much more. EICMA 2011 - 69th International Motorcycle Exhibition

Check out our video from this year's EICMA motorcycle show which took place in Milan earlier this month. As usual there was loads to see at the show, we got the chance to have a quick chat with stunt rider Rok Bagoroš from Slovenia who spotted us in our Pedstop tees. Rok put on a good show on the new KTM 125 Duke street bike, watch him in action in our vid. 2011 seemed to be the year of the maxi scooter at EICMA with the world premiere of the new BMW C600 maxi scooters, the revamped Yamaha TMAX which looked pretty wicked and a new maxi scoot from Honda. If maxi scoots aren't your thing then there was still plenty to see at the 50cc end of the spectrum with the new Italjet Dragster which looked pretty cool, the usual eye candy from Polini, Wipe2's Stage6 Street Dragster prototype, we also met up with Olivier Murro, the designer behind this amazing scooter. Many of you will have already seen or used a Polini swivel manifold, we now have another to add to the collection. This particular one is for all Derbi and Minarelli AM6 engines. With a 35mm carburettor union diameter it’s aimed at those serious about speed as it’s designed for use with big flat slide carbs or Dell'Orto VHST 28mm etc. For anyone who hasn’t already seen these manifolds they come in two parts; an aluminium base plate and the inlet rubber itself. This configuration allows you to swivel the inlet rubber to point the carburettor any which way you want giving more carb / filter clearance.

Panel filters: With their twin foam design and the specific porosities of foam that we’ve chosen, PedMoto panel filters allow for great air flow whilst improving filtration properties. With these being a direct swap for the original air filter they’re great for a small performance gain or a service. Sports motorcycle specialist KTM have announced a worldwide partnership with parts manufacturer Athena who are best known for their cylinders, gaskets along with their GET technology products that have been used by KTM to maintain and monitor the on-track activities of their factory teams.

Adrenalin Pedstop @ Scooter Shootout 2011

On Sunday 2nd October the Scooter Shootout sprinting event took place, feeling the need for speed we took our racing Zips to Elvington near York for some quarter mile action.

The turnout was good with folk from all around the country attending. Thankfully the rain held off and riders were able to get plenty of runs up the drag strip. There was plenty for punters to see too including trade stalls, dyno testing, moto gymkhana and other attractions. Sit back and watch our video with Chris (Orange Polini 94cc Big Evolution Zip) and Sam (Aqua Green 77cc Zip) clocking up some cool 15sec/85mph+ quarter mile times:

At the time of writing it's looking like the event could take place again next year - a promising sign that scooter drag racing is gaining in popularity once again in the UK. Look out for us at a drag strip next season. And who knows, we might have something special planned for the next Scooter Shootout...

Designed for Piaggio engines and racing, Polini tell us that the displacement increase (permitted by European regulations for track use) significantly improves the following characteristics: pickup, acceleration, sprint, maximum speed and pull at low/medium revs.

The 2011 BSSO series continues – Rounds 8 & 9 took place at Lydden Hill in Kent on 30/31 July. Pedstop's Sam Schofield was there supporting the cause. Despite a lack of sleep, a breakdown and two crashes he still had a smile on his face at the end.

Polini sponge air filter for Honda SH 125/150 Pure Air

Polini Motori have designed a new super efficient air filter for the Honda SH 125/150. Manufactured using flexible expanded polyurethane with a polyester base and gauze this air filter is made up of two sponge layers; a finer light blue layer with 60pp porosity and a main black layer with 30pp porosity. The fine layer filters the smallest particles which means it last longer as it doesn't come into contact with larger dust particles that haven't passed through the main pre-filtration layer. The external surface of the filter is waved which yields improved air flow retaining 50% more dust particles. The sponge also has a metal net to act as heat protection. This air filter fulfills European efficiency rules and for further efficiency in retaining dust particles the filter can be soaked in air filter oil.

New Polini Cylinder Kit for Yamaha X-MAX and X-CITY 125 / MBK Cityliner 125

Polini's new cylinder kit for 4T Yamaha X-MAX and X-CITY 125 / MBK Cityliner 125 grants great performance and faster acceleration through the rev range making overtaking easier thanks to the fast power delivery of this kit. The kit comes together with a pressure regulator, it's easy to fit and has been calibrated to suit the original exhaust system. By increasing the fuel pressure in the injection system this eliminates the use of the electric gear case thus increasing the power and torque of your scooter.

Technical Features

Made in Italy, this Polini cylinder kit has a 63mm bore and a displacement of 182.66cc. The displacement improves the power output of the scooter with a 11,5:1 compression ratio. The cylinder is cast in light aluminium alloy. The liner with Nickel-Siliceous coating improves the sliding of the piston and resistance to wear and abrasion. The kit includes the new SLS (Single Layer Steel) head gaskets made of flouride techno-polymers that are resistant to high temperatures. The piston is die-cast at high siliceous content with 'omega' design. This reduces thermal expansion and slack. Two special rings and one scraper ring are included with the piston. Polini's special piston dome design also improves the compression ratio.

For those of you who will be joining us on this year's North Run this Saturday 23 July, we've put together a document that you can download and print out so you know exactly what the plan is for the day including where all the pick up points are (including postcodes for those of you with sat navs). The event kicks off at 9am at Pedstop HQ here in Carlton, Barnsley once again. 9am is the time the rideout begins so make sure you're there a bit earlier. Details of how to find us including maps and directions can be found here.

CASTLE SYKE HILL

This year's destination is Castle Syke Hill, Ackworth, Wakefield where riders can relax and unwind in the countryside after the rideout. Camping is free so bring a tent, have a barbecue! Fun and games at Castle Syke Hill include a bucking bronco, a tug of war comp, the incredible human wrecking ball, providing the soundtrack will be the DJs and later on during the evening our pole dancers Stacey and Hayley Downing will be there to entertain. Catering vans serving food and refreshments will be present at the venue and toilet facilities.

Tecnigas have been producing scooter parts for some time now. The reputation of their old Next R systems weren’t all that great as they carried the same expansion chamber throughout the range resulting in pretty poor performance. BSSO 2011 Championship - Rounds 5 & 6: Cadwell Park

With just one week in between rounds this gave our race team precious little time to get the bikes ready in time for Cadwell last weekend. After a disastrous round at Donington, Joe Raves' departure from the team left Josh and Sam to come up with the goods. Frustratingly the weekend was a non-event for Josh due to technical problems which meant losing valuable championship points. Pedstop Race Team action at Donington Park

We're back and recovering from a long and eventful day of racing at Donington Park yesterday. Round 4 of the 2011 BSSO championship coincided with the Superstars International Race Series which meant there was more to see in between races including the likes of some impressive touring cars and pickup trucks. Donington's 1.95 mile circuit may have been great for the cars but put a strain on the scooters, some more than others. Despite this Pedstop's Sam Schofield appeared to go from strength to strength and put in an admirable performance in all three races.

At Donington, Sam appeared to be getting into a more natural flow on the circuit gaining in confidence with every lap, he even managed to go home with a trophy after coming second in the Auto Class in race one. Everything was going smoothly until the last lap of the last race when the Zip tumbled and hit the gravel. Sam was okay but the resulting damage means there's a load of work to be done to repair and prepare the scoot for next weekend's racing at Cadwell. Scooter racing can be a costly business and at times frustrating, something which the Ravenscrofts can also vouch for...

Young gun Joe Ravenscroft had a tough time at Donington. His Zip had just undergone a full rebuild and was producing good power on the dyno, but technical problems occurred during practice, something went drastically wrong and despite Joe being the third fastest rider he returned to the paddock with a seized engine. A spare engine came into play but this didn't hold out during the first race either, this put an abrupt end to the the day's racing for Joe. When things are going well Joe is among the most skilled up-and-coming riders out there, we hope he'll be able to make a comeback than see racing talent go to waste.

Meanwhile it was pretty much business as usual for BSSO champ Josh Brown. But like Joe, Josh also got a DNF in the first race after the engine exploded towards the end of the race. The second race of the day had to be stopped due to one of the other riders Alex van Dyke taking a fall. And in most races this season (and indeed last season) it seems to be a close battle between Josh and Craig Bewey. But victory came in the final race when Josh just managed to win by a 1000th of a second putting Craig in second.

As well as being easier to spot on the track, our eye-catching new race colours - "teal coloured" as described by one of the commentators, also got a lot of attention from onlookers at Donington, why not come and take a closer look at our scoots in the paddock and in action at Cadwell Park this weekend (25/26 June)? It's a two-day event in conjunction with the VMCC (Vintage Motorcycle Club), so expect to see a few old skool Bantams mixing it once again with the autos.

BSSO 2011 Championship - Round 3: Pembrey

Here's a couple of racing vids from day two at Pembrey which was Round 3 of the 2011 BSSO scooter racing championship.

Race 1: A change in weather conditions meant going back to dry tyres for the team. Josh put in a belting performance leading the whole ten lap race to finish first. Damon Tunnicliffe came second, seven seconds behind. Sam did well finishing fifth but things didn't go too well for young gun Joe. On the last race of day one Joe's engine case split clean in half so this meant an engine swap before day two. Joe got a taste of the action but his Zip was down on power after fitting the spare engine. Coupled with battling against strong headwinds he finished seventh, things can only get better!

Race 2: All the scooters lined up on the grid for one last time and away they went tearing into the first corner. Josh Brown went on to take yet another win with Joe in fourth and Sam in sixth. We didn't stick around long after our final race and was soon packed up ready for the long four hour journey back to Yorkshire. All in all it was a great weekend at Pembrey. Josh got quite a few wins and set another lap record, Sam managed to get a proper feel for his Zip after using different front tyres and Joe, despite having a few technical difficulties, picked up some all important championship points.

Next stop: Donington Park on June 19.

Spring Bank Holiday 30 May

BSSO 2011 Championship - Round 2: Pembrey

Round 2 of this year's BSSO Championship took place at Pembrey in South Wales last weekend. The Pedstop Race Team were there of course competing in some less than favourable conditions on the track. Despite this the rain didn't stop Josh Brown from winning four races during the weekend as well as setting another new lap record. Young gun Joe Ravenscroft's Zip succumb to engine problems but despite this he put in another fine performance too. At just 14 years of age we feel the best is yet to come from Joe, watch this space. Meanwhile, Pedstop Sam put in a strong performance coming in mid-pack giving some of the more experienced riders a run for their money. ATHENA's innovative new Power Valve System

ATHENA's R&D department have come up with an innovative new Minarelli AM6 cylinder kit which features a pneumatic 'Power Valve System' to give improved low RPM and top-end performance.

ATHENA's Power Valve System exploits exhaust gas pressure by way of a guillotine valve. At low RPM, when exhaust gas pressure is low, the Power Valve is kept closed by a spring inside the pneumatic system. When RPM increases the pressure of the exhaust gas raises causing the pneumatic system to move the guillotine valve upwards.

The kit also comes with a specially designed aluminum Cast Lite piston with Molycote flat head to eliminate frictions.

Two versions will be available; 50cc and 80cc. We'll keep you posted as soon as they arrive!

BSSO 2011 Championship - Round 1: Mallory Park

And so begins another year of scooter racing in the UK. The first round of the 2011 BSSO Championship took place at Mallory Park last week on 25 April. Things are different for us this year with us having two new riders...

One being Joe Ravenscroft who raced last year and is very experienced on the track. And the other rider being Pedstop Boy Sam Schofield whose had no real racing experience. Last year’s championship winner Josh Brown was back for a chance to win the title for possibly the third year running. With these three riders in place we didn’t know what to expect. As per usual everything was very last minute with getting the Zips ready and the new colour scheme panels not arriving meant two of the bikes were looking a little on the tatty side.

Race 1: A nerve-wracking first race, Josh took first place and the fastest lap time of 1 minute 09.07 seconds. Joe came second, his fastest lap was 1 minute 10.79 seconds. The best is yet to come from Sam who came eighth, thankfully he didn't come off.

Race 2: Everyone got a good start off the line in race two with the odd rider maybe jumping the gun a little bit. Josh and Joe were the front runners along with a surprisingly quick Craig Bewey. Joe and Josh battled it out from the start with some extremely close racing and in lap four Josh set a new lap record of 1 minute 08.43 seconds (top speed of 73.13 mph). The frantic pace continued and in lap five Joe pushed it a little bit too much resulting in an off at Shaw's Hairpin (watch the video at 5:36). Josh crashed into Joe's bike but luckily managed to stay on. This gave Craig the lead that he needed and he went on to win the race leaving Josh in second. Sam was a lot more confident in race two and came a respectable fifth due to holding his line during traffic and generally being more confident among other riders.

The action continues in Round 2 at Pembrey, South Wales on May 21/22.

Introducing Pedstop Race Team member: Joe Ravenscroft

STOP PRESS: Joe Ravenscroft joins the Adrenalin Pedstop Race Team.

Last year Joe really impressed us with his racing skills out on the track so we're delighted that he now joins the Adrenalin Pedstop Race Team in 2011. Joe's fellow team members include BSSO champion Josh Brown who you should all know by now and Pedstop's very own Sam Schofield. Sam admits to being a complete novice, but with balls of steel and an aggressive riding style it'll be interesting to see how he gets on during the coming season.

On 10 March Joe headed out to sunny Spain for a week of practice at the Finestrat circuit in Benidorm. Here's his account of how it went:

"The week got off to a good start with temperatures of 20 degrees plus. The first session got underway (the first time I’d ridden anything in six months). I went out testing a jack up kit and to cut a long story short I didn’t really get on with it due to it changing the geometry of the bike too much not to my liking. With that session out of the way I took off the jack up kit and re-fuelled. By the end of the first day we (me and my Dad) had solved a few minor problems. Day two came with an unpleasant downpour that lasted for hours. Unfortunately I had to stand out at the sideline and help to marshall, I couldn't race because the wheels for my wet tyres were being powder coated back in the UK. But with many tea and coffee breaks dinner time (siesta) came around fast, this gave chance for the clouds to break and for the sun to break through and dry up the track. After lunch we returned to a lovely 22 degrees and a dry track. With the big change in weather conditions it was time to get out the Adrenalin Pedstop Zip SP for the first time that day. The last three days was basically the same lovely weather and a superb track to top it all off! A good week was had by all with good riding all throughout the week and with the hotel being all inclusive there was plenty of food and beer! I hope I can persuade the rest of the Pedstop crew to come with us and have a mega week’s testing in Spain next time!" - Joe Ravenscroft

The North Run 2011

If you only go on one rideout this year then make sure it's The North Run. As well as the mass scooter ride itself to look forward to, there's a bunch of things in store at this year's destination - Castle Syke Hill, Ackworth, West Yorkshire.

Grass Track Racing - If the madcap antics of the rideout itself isn't enough to give you an adrenaline rush then a quick blast around a grass track should give you your fix of speed. The entry fee is just £1 using your own bike, or for £5 you can have a go on ours.

Sprint Competition - Having our own venue has opened up all sorts of possibilities so this year we'll be hosting a 100 yard grass sprint competition - forget Santa Pod this is drag racing Yorkshire style! As an added incentive we'll award a trophy to the fastest rider of the day.

Bucking Bronco Shootout - Mount the Bucking Bronco and unleash the inner cowboy (or cowgirl) in you. We've got some prizes set aside for those of you who possess the best Rodeo skillz. There will be winners and there will be losers, either way it'll be a laugh!

Custom Scooter Awards - We know there are some great custom scooters out there, so we'd love to see your pride and joy entered into our custom scooter competition. We've got some bling in the form of a trophy to award to the best looking modified scooter in the eyes of the judges. Top scooters could also get a feature on the PETROL Scooter Magazine website.

Stunt Arena - Grass and bales of hay to play in, that's the theme for the Stunt Arena. We're on the look out for stunting talent so let's see what tricks you can come up with.

Entertainment - Bangin' tunes will be played throughout the day with a DJ hitting the decks and rumour has it some strippers will make an appearance at the end of Saturday night...

There will be fuel stops along the way but make sure you fill up before the start of the ride. The best option is to join The North Run at the start point here at Adrenalin HQ, or if you prefer wait for us to arrive at one of the meeting points. Failing that, meet us at the final destination at Castle Syke Hill in Ackworth. Whatever you do, just be there yeah?

All riders are welcome on The North Run - geared scoots, autos, motorcycles, the more the merrier. It doesn't cost anything to take part. We won't be going on any motorways, so riders with L-plates can join in. If you want to camp at Ackworth then bring a tent, it won't cost you anything to pitch a tent either. Catering vans serving food and refreshments will be on site and toilet facilities. Polini's Big Evolution - A New Chapter in Scooter Tuning

2010 saw the release of Polini’s range of Big Evo kits for 50cc Piaggio and Minarelli engines intended solely for competition use. The product range consists of 70cc, 84cc and 94cc configurations created from a selection of cylinder and crank combinations. With a brand new cylinder design and a full range of components to complement the kit, Polini weren’t hanging around and were going all out to match the constantly evolving range of products that surface on an annual basis for these popular engines.

2010 brought home great results for us using the Big Evo 70cc engine in the UK BSSO series with our rider Josh Brown who won races and set new lap records including a new lap time at the Three Sisters racetrack in Wigan. And for the second year running Josh was able to take the BSSO championship and be crowned champion once again. The engine in Josh’s Zip was originally supplied by Polini as a fully built race engine. Further enhancements were made by us in conjunction with Darrell Taylor at 50ccTuning through ongoing development and adjustments to the performance of the engine to suit UK racetracks – bear in mind that the engine was originally set up by Polini technicians for use on the shorter Italian circuits.

2011 comes as a new year and with it the feeling of trying something new, so out came the Big Evo 94cc engine with a view to running it at a race meeting or two. Currently the 94cc engine can be seen fitted to our shop demonstrator for all to drool over.

The Big Evo 94cc Piaggio configuration comprises of a 52mm cylinder kit and a 44mm long stroke crankshaft giving an actual capacity of 93.39cc using the ACU formula (bore x bore x stroke x 0.785). The build started out with a major shopping list of components and includes a brand new set of crankcases. After seeing the odd case fail in the past, the decision to use new casings was a no brainer coupled with the fact that the engine has to be machined out to accept both the crank and cylinder – the most powerful and highest torque producing kit around. The crankcases also benefit from additional strengthening thanks to the new bolt-on Polini Torsen WD which reduces engine flex by making the casing dual sided.

Pedstop Track Day at Teeside Autodrome

Last week Chris, Sam and Josh managed to get some track time in at Teeside Autodrome in Middlesbrough. Testing went well despite rain and gale force winds to contend with. Chris took our Polini 94cc Zip (as featured in our video last month) out on the track. Sam got some practice on his Malossi 77c kitted Zip and whizz kid Josh made it all look easy on our Polini 70cc Big Evolution Zip, he didn't do too badly on a Kawasaki ZX6R either.

New Polini pin cage for Piaggio and Yamaha Big Evolution kit

Our friends at Polini Motori inform us that a new pin cage is now available for the Piaggio and Yamaha Big Evolution kit. By all accounts the old cage (part no: 280.0013) won't be produced anymore. The new cage (part no: 280.0015) comes with rollers and features a clever design, RRP is 8.33 Euros + VAT. This is how it fits together:

The North Run 2011

The North Run, now in its third year, has evolved from a mass scooter ride to the coast to a festival style event involving camping and entertainment at a new destination in the Yorkshire countryside.

Given the rising popularity of the event, the congestion in Scarborough, not to mention the hold-ups on the A64 to contend with, The North Run needed room to expand so we thought we’d try something a little bit different in 2011. So this year’s North Run will see riders head out on a whistle stop tour of West and South Yorkshire starting at the usual meeting place – Adrenalin Pedstop HQ in Carlton, Barnsley. A true North Run in every sense, proposed stop-off points include Barnsley, Rotherham, Sheffield, Doncaster, Pontefract, Castleford, Leeds and Wakefield before heading out to Ackworth near Pontefract where riders can relax and unwind in the open countryside. Proposed attractions include trophies for best custom scoots, a grass track kickstart style competition, a bucking bronco (so you can laugh at your mates), a DJ and a surprise spectacle to liven things up a bit…

Catering vans serving food and refreshments will be present on site as well as toilet facilities. A van will be provided for riders wanting to offload camping gear so as not to be too laden down during the ride. Riders may join The North Run at different meeting points during the rideout, full details of the route to follow. The event is free to attend and all riders are welcome, the more the merrier.

Athena 170cc cylinder kit for Honda CBR 125

The Athena 170cc kits are now in stock for CBR 125 models. We are stocking two kits, one for injection models and one for carburettor models. Both kits feature aluminium nickel-carbide barrels and cast-lite pistons. The kit for injection models comes with a new ECU that changes the rpm curve bringing power in at 6000 rpm right through to 13000 rpm. Peak power on the dyno comes in at 16.8 hp on injection models, unfortunately we don't have any information for carburettor models as of yet but expect similar gains but not as low down the rev range. These kits are one of the very few parts for CBR 125's that make any real power increases. Spare pistons and gasket sets are also in stock.

Now in stock from Athena are the long awaited 183cc cylinder kits for Yamaha 125cc 4T learner legals. They fit Yamaha YZF R125’s and WR125’s, both great looking bikes but both lacking in the power they deserve. The kit takes the capacity up to 183cc with the new aluminium nickel-carbide plated barrel and cast-lite piston. Also included in the kit is a new ECU that remaps the rpm curve bringing power straight in at 5000 rpm and holding out right through to 10500 rpm. The dyno shows a peak power of 17.1 hp at just under 9000 rpm.
