Polini spare parts: Yamaha TMax air filters

Polini have developed three new air filters for the Yamaha TMax.

Two air filters are for the air intake system for the following models: The 2004-07 TMax with carburetor and the 2008 injection model. The other air filter is for the transmission cover and is designed to assist in variator/drive belt cooling. The materials used come from Formula 1 / Formula Indy race technology in the USA. All three air filters are made of a special cotton cloth with long multilayer structure lubricated with a special low viscosity product that improves the air permeability. Compared to standard paper filters this limits the loss of air flow pressure through the filter.

Polini part numbers and list prices are as follows:

203.0144: Air filter for 2004-07 TMax: Euro 41,50 (£34.68) + VAT
203.0148: Air filter for 2008 TMax: Euro 36,00 (£30) + VAT
203.0149: Variator filter for all TMax models: Euro 32,00 (£26.74) + VAT

Doppler RR7 exhaust system for Yamaha Aerox / Gilera Runner / Piaggio Zip

The Doppler RR7 is an evolution of the S3R with a more imposing appearance and stronger performance high up in the rev range. Based on its appearance and the performance data available, the RR7 has new targets in sight.

A laser cut bracket has been incorporated on the new system along with a new silencer design cut from a block of aluminium rather than cast and finished off with CHC screws. An excellent seal has been achieved with the new silencer which sports an anodised titanium colour and thin collar clamp. Furthermore, the RR7 silencer and manifold stub are held in place with traction springs making life a little easier for servicing or quick tyre changes.

Typical to the racing appearance the RR7 makes use of a clear varnished expansion chamber. Currently the RR7 is available for the Yamaha Aerox, MBK Nitro, Gilera Runner, Piaggio NRG, Peugeot Speedfight, Ludix, MBK Booster and more.

RRP: £190.00 OUR PRICE: £159.00

Polini Evolution engine case

New from Polini are these rather slick looking transmission covers to fit horizontal Minarelli engines (long version).

Trick looks are all well and good but it’s what’s underneath that counts and the most important feature here is the primary gear with variator driven pulley. Polini Motori have developed the engine case so that it’s possible to fit the supplementary gear that works on a pin to be screwed on the shaft itself. Thanks to this the pin is less flexible when usually it is completely overhanging.

A second useful feature is the inclusion of an air intake to improve variator cooling, this comes pre-fitted with a foam sponge to prevent unwanted dirt and air impurities from getting inside.

Polini claim that with the above additions it’s possible to eliminate variator vibration and exploit all the belt run on the variator. Great for tuned engines.

Four colour options are on offer:

Carbon: 128 Euros (£106) + VAT
Chromed: 119 Euros (£98) + VAT
Blue: 119 Euros (£98) + VAT
Black: 119 Euros (£98) + VAT

The above prices are approximate at the time of writing.

New K1 air filter from ARTEK

French aftermarket parts manufacturer, ARTEK, have developed this funky new K1 air filter which combines sports air filter efficiency with air box practicality.

The difference with this system compared to a standard sports air filter is that it comprises of a ‘tranquilisation chamber’. Air flow is supplied to an inner chamber by two venturas where the air is then filtered by a piece of foam. A third ventura (which is closed by default) can also be opened to increase air flow. The K1 air filter is compact in size with a width of 21cm, height 12cm and is available in four different colours – white, black, blue and red and can be used with any size cylinder. Each air filter comes with a spacer and adaptors (28/32/36/43mm) to fit a variety of carbs.

Current retail price from us: £23.25 each.

Project Zip: BSSO Round 5 - Pembrey

The weather conditions were somewhat mixed on day one at Pembrey in South Wales but our Polini-powered Zip coped well on the 1.45 mile circuit. Josh gave a good performance once again and managed to come second in both races in his class on day one despite starting at the back of the grid due to his fall in the last race at Lydden at the end of July. Our onboard video camera took a bit of a bashing during the crash which could be the reason why it stopped recording during the second lap of the first race at Pembrey. In any case sit back and watch some of the action from day one in BSSO Round 5:

Watch Josh in practice on day two as he cruises round the track effortlessly:
