The North Run 2011

The North Run, now in its third year, has evolved from a mass scooter ride to the coast to a festival style event involving camping and entertainment at a new destination in the Yorkshire countryside.



Given the rising popularity of the event, the congestion in Scarborough, not to mention the hold-ups on the A64 to contend with, The North Run needed room to expand so we thought we’d try something a little bit different in 2011. So this year’s North Run will see riders head out on a whistle stop tour of West and South Yorkshire starting at the usual meeting place – Adrenalin Pedstop HQ in Carlton, Barnsley. A true North Run in every sense, proposed stop-off points include Barnsley, Rotherham, Sheffield, Doncaster, Pontefract, Castleford, Leeds and Wakefield before heading out to Ackworth near Pontefract where riders can relax and unwind in the open countryside. Proposed attractions include trophies for best custom scoots, a grass track kickstart style competition, a bucking bronco (so you can laugh at your mates), a DJ and a surprise spectacle to liven things up a bit…

Catering vans serving food and refreshments will be present on site as well as toilet facilities. A van will be provided for riders wanting to offload camping gear so as not to be too laden down during the ride. Riders may join The North Run at different meeting points during the rideout, full details of the route to follow. The event is free to attend and all riders are welcome, the more the merrier.

The North Run 2010 - Video

Video footage from Sunday's North Run to sunny Scarborough is now online - six hours of footage crammed into four minutes. As you can imagine it's a nigh on impossible task getting a shot of everyone in the video, apologies if you didn't make an appearance this time, keep your eyes peeled for extended coverage of the event on YouTube. As it transpired it was an eventful day (predicted chaos) with a even bigger turnout compared to last year's North Run. A big thank you to everyone who joined this year's run regardless of the poor weather at the start of the day. Special thanks to everyone who helped out in particular the marshals and the breakdown crew for their invaluable assistance and indeed patience throughout the day. Pics to follow! The North Run 2010 - Rider Briefing

This year's North Run promises to be even bigger and better than last year and with your help it can be. We want to ensure that everything goes smoothly on the day of the run so can all riders please spare a few minutes to read the following:

Rider safety: Safety first! Last year there was an incident involving three riders in Wakefield, one of whom got knocked off their bike. Luckily they were wearing the right gear and apart from getting a little bit of a shock, they weren't injured. The last thing we want is to scare people and we don't want to sound like we're giving a lecture either but would all riders please make sure they're wearing gloves (some of you weren't last year), a decent bike jacket and of course a good crash helmet (which should go without saying). At the end of the day, we don't want anyone getting hurt so please ride safely and consider other road users and everything will be okay.

Weather: Fingers crossed that the weather will stay dry and sunny like it did last year but in the event of a torrential downpour, it doesn't hurt to keep some waterproofs under your seat just in case it rains.

Fuel: Riders who need to stop for fuel during the start of the ride will cause a delay for the rest of the group so can all riders please fuel up before the start of the ride and bring some extra cash for fuel. Make sure your two-strokes are topped up with oil too before the start of the journey too. There are petrol stations en route to Scarborough should you need to top up.

Breakdowns: We don't know what we would have done without the assistance of MSL last year who followed the group giving breakdown assistance. All riders need to make sure they've got breakdown cover this year (if you haven't already). If you do need breakdown cover then sign up with the AA or RAC. Marshals: Keep an eye out for the marshals wearing hi-viz vests who will be there to make sure riders are well behaved (we know it's not a school trip but you know what we mean) and keep the group together. You can never have enough marshals so we are looking for more volunteers to come forward and help out on the day. If you have some previous experience as a marshal and want to lend a hand then please get in touch (phone 01226 630021 or email us).

Schedule: The North Run will commence at 9am prompt on Sunday 18 July. Please be warned that we won't hang around waiting for riders who are late. All riders wishing to join the rideout from the official start point at Adrenalin HQ need to make sure that they're there in plenty of time before the start of the rideout. Obviously traffic delays cannot always be foreseen, so a note to riders wishing to meet us at one of the meeting points on the way to Scarborough the times we have given in our schedule are estimates. Please be aware that there may be delays.

The Route: Obviously we'll be doing our best to ensure that the whole group stays together and nobody gets left behind. In any case we would advise all riders to take a look at the route. It's approximately 80 miles from Barnsley to Scarborough (no motorways and mostly A roads).

Speed: The average cruising speed is around 50mph once we reach the A64, there will be some allowances for riders of 50cc scooters so that they can keep up with the group.

Who can take part in The North Run? Participation in The North Run is free and riders of all ages are welcome. It would be great to see more maxi-scooters this year. Riders of geared scooters are also welcome. Riders on L plates can go on the run as the route avoids motorways.

Media coverage: The event will be covered by PETROL Scooter Magazine and like last year there will be an official camera car present which means we'll be taking plenty of photos on the day as well as making another video - PED TV! Here's a reminder of the fun we had last year:

The North Run 2010 scooter rideout

Sunday July 18th is the magical date for this year's North Run rideout from Barnsley to Scarborough. Loads of scooterists will attend, it'll be lots of fun and there'll be more maxi scooters this year hopefully. Remember that riders of all ages are welcome on this rideout, the more the merrier. If it's anything like last year (have a look at the pics) then scratch the date into your bodywork, you really don't want to miss this one.

The North Run - Photos and video

On Saturday 11th of July, Adrenalin Pedstop and lots of scooter followers set off on the North Run, a rideout from Barnsley to Scarborough.

The day was quite eventful and had its fair share of breakdowns, crashes and wheelies. There were lots of different bikes at the event and everyone got to show the modifications they had made to their scooters.

If you’ve seen some scooters and mopeds you like the look of, then why not take a look at some of Adrenalin’s scooter parts and make your own modifications? Make sure any modifications are legal as you wouldn’t want to get your scooter impounded on the next rideout. Speaking of which, it looks like the South Run will take place next year now and we're planning some smaller events over the summer so keep your eyes peeled for more information.

The North Run - Scooter Rideout

The guys at Adrenalin Pedstop are leaving the office and heading North on their scooters and they want you to join them. The North Run starts at Adrenalin HQ in Barnsley with two stops before reaching Scarborough. First stop: Meet at 10am at Cineworld car park in Wakefield. Second stop: 11.45am at The Highwayman Cafe near York. Full route details are available on the Adrenalin website. And on the specially designed North Run flyer. You can also visit Adrenalin's Facebook page to let them know you're attending.

All scooterists are welcome on the rideout that will arrive in North Bay in Scarborough with the possibility of visiting Oliver’s Mount race track, but details are still being confirmed on this one. So if you and your scooter are free on Saturday the 11th July, make your way to one of the meeting points at the specified times and join in.
